WORDS and IMAGES from
the WORLD'S LARGEST PENAL COLONY

WELCOME!

THIS SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SO PLEASE BEAR WITH US. PLEASE RETURN FROM TIME TO TIME TO SEE HOW WE ARE GROWING.

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, Kona created this collage from carefully torn magazine pictures (scissors are contraband) and toothpaste (glue is contraband).

He links this deadly natural disaster with the destruction of the war he experienced in his African homeland. Shortly after creating this work, his housing unit went through one of many searches, and his artwork suffered destruction as well.

Kona envisions himself leaving his past behind and moving to a better place. Crime, depression, bad habits, old friends, bad dreams, drugs and jail all fall off the trailer of his car as he begins the long, arduous trip to the promises of a new home in California 5000 miles away. He begins by driving past his former home.
